Someone who understands that you’re not yourself, that you’ve gone off the deep end and none of the horrible things you’ve been doing you would actually do if you were in your right mind. If the situation was flipped, Elena would give any of her friends the amount of understanding and patience that one who has turned off their emotions deserves. This is when Elena needs her friends most and they can’t handle the responsibility or the difficulty. I’m not saying I wish they were perfect. They’re human. I just think they’ve all reached the end of their patience for her way too quickly when she would never reach her breaking point if she had to watch them go through this. Remember how patient and strong and understanding she was when Damon had his humanity turned off? When Stefan did? Elena stuck around the entire time and stayed with them for everything, even during the times when quite honestly she shouldn’t have (I’m referring to Stefan but that’s not the point of this discussion). The rest of the Mystic Falls gang should really take that incredible example from her. It’s the least they could do when they know all that she’s been through.

Damon didn’t have his humanity switched off in season 1. Everything he did was for the love of Katherine, he was just an asshole. And no Elena shouldn’t have been understanding of Damon abusing Caroline and trying to kill Bonnie and Jeremy and turning Vicky. You know why she was understanding of Stefan? Cuz the entire reason he was being Klaus’s slave was to save Damon’s sorry ass and protect Elena so Klaus wouldn’t find out she was still alive. So even under the mask of the Ripper, Stefan was still trying to protect Elena. Bonnie and Caroline should not feel obligated to someone who doesn’t even care enough to feel and tries to kill them.

lmao what season 1 friendship? The one where Elena wasn’t even there for Bonnie when Grams died and basically chose the Salvatores? Or the one where Elena continued fraternizing with Damon even after he abused Caroline?

um Elena was RIGHT THERE when Bonnie’s Gram died. She was there for Caroline when her dad died. She was there for Matt when Vicki died. And what about when Bonnie walked away from Elena even when she saw she was upset in 1x21 about Isobel? Even anti-Elena people will admit she was a much better friend in seasons 1 and 2. Caroline wasn’t the greatest friend either in season 1, attempting to rip off the necklace from Bonnie, and basically laughing in her face when she tried to explain she was a witch. They weren’t all perfect in season 1, but they were a hell of a lot closer.

And Elena in no way condoned what Damon did to Caroline. But it would’ve been a very short series if Elena had just ignored Damon from thereonin. If you didn’t see the friendship in season 1, I really can’t help you see it now. I’m an Elena fan, so really nothing you’re gonna say here is going to make me stop loving her so bye bye now.

I’m talking about when Bonnie was grieving and Elena was too focused on Stefan to care. Caroline was the one who was on the phone with Bonnie every day and then Elena alienated Bonnie in early season 2 just because Bonnie was uncomfortable with vampires.

And I never claimed Caroline was a perfect friend to Bonnie but claiming that Elena was is laughable. She always was a better friend to the men she was attracted to(Stefan, Damon and Elijah) than she ever was to women. And that is a fact.

Never claimed Elena was a perfect friend, even in seasons 1 or 2. But Bonnie alienated HERSELF from Elena on both occasions you’re referring to. She chose to dodge Elena’s calls and take Caroline’s. Elena made the effort, Bonnie decided, which is fair enough given the circumstances, that she couldn’t talk to Elena without putting her in the middle knowing how she felt about Damon and Stefan,

Bonnie walked away from Elena when she was hurt about Isobel. Now, no matter what I felt about a friend, if i saw them hurting I couldn’t walk away and Bonnie did. Okay she came back but it says something that even in that moment she couldn’t get over her prejudicism to help her friend.So even Bonnie isn’t perfect. And can we not forget that she avoided Caroline even knowing Caroline had been turned against her will by Katherine. She didn’t even acknowledge her responsibility in the decision to make Damon feed his blood to her to make her better. She just recklessly went after Damon, putting revenge above helping her friend.

She had her reasons. I don’t hold them against her. My original point was missing the friendship the girls had in seasons 1 and 2, and I can name their faults and their crimes against one another, but it’s not worth holding every character’s past events against them if it doesn’t affect the current storyline.

Elena wasn’t a perfect friend then and she isn’t one now. We’re talking about a girl who lost her parents in season 1 and latched onto Stefan because he was new and brought hope for the first time into her life. Damon was Stefan’s baggage and he caused a lot of pain for the town but Elena is compassionate by nature. She overlooked his flaws and found the humanity within him. Now knowing no one has ever done that for Damon ever should tell you what kind of human being Elena is. If you hate her, fine, but don’t tell me she wasn’t a good friend in season 1, because despite her moments where she overlooked certain things - for example, her reminiscing with Matt despite the hurt it was causing Caroline - she was inherently a good friend, or tried to be. But her friends haven’t been perfect either. It’s just interesting Elena is the one that always gets picked on for her past behaviour that’s all.

Elena was not understanding in that situation. She still chose to run off cuz Stefan was drinking human blood instead of being a friend to Bonnie. Like DUH Bonnie would hate vampires: she was almost killed by Damon, Damon killed Vicky, and it was in helping Damon that Grams died in the first place.
